The new 20th Century was getting slowly underway as Gretel Geyer grew up in the security of her loving extended family. Within the enchanting walled medieval German village of Überauen, life at the Inn of the Golden Knight was like a fantasy world of peace and gentility.
The Great War was just the beginning of Gretel’s maturity in 1918, as challenges of family tragedy, inflation, economic depression and the rise of the Third Reich came in rapid succession. In the midst of this turmoil, Gretel sought her own personal love and happiness in an ever-changing world.
As the horror of WWII was coming to an end and at the moment when bravery and common sense were in short supply, Gretel’s Uncle Maximillian jumped in to save Überauen and all of its inhabitants from destruction. His quick actions brought Gretel and her family through the final days of WWII and secured their future.
